1.What is a BMS Battery Management System?
The BMS Battery Management System is mainly used for intelligent management and maintenance of battery units, preventing overcharging and over-discharging of batteries, extending battery life, and monitoring battery status.
2.Components of BMS
The BMS is mainly composed of the BMU master controller, CSC sub-controller, CSU balancing module, HVU high-voltage controller, BTU battery status indicator unit, and GPS communication module.
3.Life cycle form of BMS
The Battery Management System (BMS) is a critical component of electric vehicles and other battery applications. It is responsible for monitoring and controlling the battery's condition to ensure safe and efficient operation. The lifecycle of a BMS can be divided into several stages:
- Design stage: During the BMS design stage, the BMS's function and configuration must be determined based on factors such as the type of battery, application scenario, and performance requirements. This stage requires extensive research and testing to ensure that the BMS design meets the needs of the battery application.
- Manufacturing stage: During the BMS manufacturing stage, the various components of the BMS must be produced according to the design requirements and assembled and tested. This stage requires strict quality control to ensure that the BMS's quality and performance meet the design requirements.
- Installation and debugging stage: During the BMS installation and debugging stage, the BMS must be installed in the battery system and tested and debugged. This stage requires great care and precision to ensure that the installation and debugging of the BMS do not damage the battery or affect its performance.
- Operation and maintenance stage: During the BMS operation and maintenance stage, regular checks and maintenance must be carried out to ensure the normal operation and performance of the BMS. This stage requires data recording and analysis to promptly identify and solve problems and to upgrade and maintain the BMS.
- Retirement and renewal stage: During the BMS retirement and renewal stage, the BMS must be updated or replaced based on the battery's lifespan and performance requirements. This stage requires data analysis and evaluation to determine whether the BMS needs to be updated or replaced and how to update or replace the BMS.
4.Core software functions of BMS
Measurement function
(1) Basic information measurement: monitoring battery voltage, current signal, and battery pack temperature. The most basic function of the battery management system is to measure the voltage, current, and temperature of battery cells, which is the basis of all top-level calculations and control logic of the battery management system.
(2) Insulation resistance detection: The entire battery system and high-voltage system need to be tested for insulation by the battery management system.
(3) High-voltage interlock detection (HVIL): used to confirm the integrity of the entire high-voltage system. When the integrity of the high-voltage system circuit is damaged, safety measures are activated.
Estimation function
(1) SOC and SOH estimation: the core and most difficult part
(2) Balancing: adjust the SOC x capacity imbalance between monomers through a balancing circuit.
(3) Battery power limitation: the input and output power of the battery are limited at different SOC temperatures.
