Highway testing for vehicles refers to various performance tests and validations conducted on highways. Long-distance driving tests on highways provide a comprehensive and accurate evaluation of a vehicle’s performance, making it an indispensable aspect of automotive manufacturing and quality inspection.
Recently, accompanied by rainy and snowy weather in the Sichuan region, YIWEI’s professional vehicle evaluation team drove their self-developed 18-ton electric dust suppression vehicle from Chengdu, Sichuan Province, to Suizhou, Hubei Province, covering a total test distance of 1195 km, including highways and other roads.
The high-speed long-distance driving test primarily includes the following items:
01 High-Speed Charging Test
With fast charging speed, the State of Charge (SOC) can go from 20% to 100% in just 60 minutes using a 240 kW charging station, equivalent to the time taken for a meal break at a service station.
It is compatible with various charging stations along the route (Shudao, PetroChina, State Grid, etc.) and supports dual-gun charging, further enhancing charging efficiency. There are charging stations at every highway service area along the 1195 km route from Chengdu to Suizhou, ensuring convenient and quick charging. A total of six charging stations, including Yanting Charging Station (Shudao charging station), Enyang Charging Station (Shudao charging station), Huangzhong Charging Station (PetroChina charging station), Ankang Charging Station (e charging), Baoxia Charging Station (e charging), and Zhonggang Charging Station (e charging), were used for supplementary charging, with a total of 801 kWh of electricity consumed.
02 Fuel Efficiency Test
YIWEI’s 18-ton electric multifunctional dust suppression vehicle is equipped with the internationally top-ranked and domestically top three-ranked Zhongxin Innovation HANG 231 kWh power battery. After traveling more than 1000 kilometers, the total electricity consumption was 800 kWh, costing over 1000 yuan. The average energy consumption cost per kilometer is around 1 yuan, saving nearly 50% of the expenses compared to using a trailer for transportation.
03 High-Speed Endurance Test
With a total weight of 18 tons, the electric dust suppression vehicle, with a curb weight of 10 tons, can travel 245 km on a single charge from 100% to 20% SOC at a speed of 80 km/h. At a speed of 60 km/h, the range increases to 290 km on a single charge. With service areas conveniently located along the entire distance, there are no concerns about the vehicle’s endurance during long-distance travel.
04 Braking Performance Test
The test measures the braking distance of the vehicle at different speeds and evaluates the stability of the braking system. After the high-speed road test, YIWEI’s new energy sanitation vehicle demonstrated excellent acceleration and braking performance without any abnormalities.
05 Suspension System Test
This test assesses the performance of the vehicle’s suspension system during high-speed driving, including stability and shock absorption effects. When departing from Chengdu, Sichuan Province, during freezing rain and snow, with slippery road conditions, the vehicle maintained stable performance while passing through circular ramps and highway bends.
06 Handling System Test
This test evaluates the vehicle’s handling performance during high-speed driving, including steering agility and vehicle response time. From Chengdu to Suizhou, the vehicle encountered various terrains, including plains, mountainous areas, and sections with heavy traffic, demonstrating the electric sanitation vehicle’s ability to handle them effortlessly.
Through these tests, YIWEI can comprehensively understand the high-speed and long-distance performance of their new energy sanitation vehicles, identify and resolve issues in a pre-production phase, prevent problems from entering the market, and improve the overall quality and performance of the vehicles. Additionally, the tests provide real-world data for interprovincial travel of new energy sanitation vehicles, offering reliable references for customers when dispatching vehicles across provinces.
In the future, YIWEI will continue to conduct high-speed long-distance driving tests in different regions such as Hainan, Guangdong, Fujian, Shandong, and Xinjiang. These tests will be carried out under various road conditions and climates, using real-world road environments to comprehensively and accurately evaluate the vehicles’ performance, ensuring continuous product optimization and upgrades.
